Erin A. DeLaney started taking pictures with her grandfather’s 1930s rangefinder 35mm camera in high school as an art elective. This led to a lifelong exploration of her surroundings through a camera lens. The early classroom assignments fostered an interest in capturing the graphicness of nature in her suburban neighborhood and the abstract in ordinary objects.

She refined and expanded her skills at Syracuse University’s Newhouse School of Public Communication, graduating with a degree in Illustration Photography specializing in studio still life and advertising photography. After graduation, she moved to New York City and worked in commercial photo labs, learning high end printing techniques and digital retouching. Her photographic eye turned to finding the surprising pieces of nature in her new urban surroundings along with the iconic architecture and hustle bustle of the city.

She moved to the Heights section of Jersey City in 1999 while still working in New York City. She began exploring her new town on weekend photo safaris. She documented her travels and local finds on social media. She decided to start her own business as a photographer and digital retoucher in 2011, Erin A. DeLaney Photo. Her client base spans from local businesses to international contacts.

She began exhibiting her urban nature photography in Jersey City in 2014 in several group art shows. She landed her first solo photo show “Urban Oasis: Photography in the Jersey City Reservoir” for the 2015 Jersey City Art and Studio Tour. The exhibit was also presented at Jersey City City Hall in May, 2016. She turned the solo photo exhibit into a self-published art book benefiting the Jersey City Reservoir Preservation Alliance. She continues to show work in New Jersey with 107 Bowers Gallery and Art Space and other local venues.

In 2015 Erin was introduced to the world of adult coloring books and created “Drawn From Life Jersey City, New Jersey”, a coloring book based on her photographs of Jersey City. Each coloring page is a photorealistic illustration that leaves space for individual creativity. The book contains iconic Jersey City sites as well as hidden gems for locals to revisit and for visitors to discover. She is working on turning the “Drawn From Life” concept into a series of coloring books.
